Willcahuaín is an
archaeological site located
7 km North of Huaraz City.
They were built by the members
of the Wari culture about
600-800 years A.D. According
to history, they used to
house mummies of the Wari
culture. The construction
consists of a roof of large
stone slabs and an extensive
ventilation system. Due
to the good ventilation,
the site remains in a very
well preserved state. From
the ruins we continue our
hike towards Monterrey where
we have the opportunity
to visit the very relaxing
Thermal Springs named after
the village. From there,
we take a taxi or minibus
back to Huaraz. The whole
trip takes 5 to 6 hours.
